Chocolate Chip Mug Cake

Single Serving Recipe

A mug cake is the best dessert for one, that ever existed! A simple cake in a mug? Yes, please! What I love about this recipe is that it’s easy to follow for everyone. If you are not a fan of baking, trust me this recipe will get you that sweet fix you need in no time. This chocolate chip mug cake is layered with chocolate chips inside and on top. As a result, you have a gooey centre and a nice firm sponge.

A mess in the kitchen could be the one thing that deters anyone from baking. But this recipe can all be done in a single serving mug. If you are wanting to make it for more than one person, no worries, just double up the recipe.

Mug cakes bake so quickly in a microwave and really takes out the stress of making a massive cake. This also means that that you don’t have to worry about leftovers. This recipe uses cocoa powder, chocolate chips and Nutella to really get that gooey texture. I didn’t expect it to rise that much but seeing it rise made me know it was baking the right way. If your mug cake doesn’t rise much you probably didn’t add enough baking powder in, so you’ll end up with a flat looking cake, that’s quite dense in texture.

Substitutes for this chocolate chip mug cake:

  1. Sometimes we need a recipe to be versatile and this one is! You substitute Gluten Free flour (a 1:1 ratio) instead of all purpose flour.
  2. Please make sure that the gluten free flour contains Xanthan gum. This will help to bind the ingredients together.
  3. If you don’t want to use Nutella, no worries. You can replace it with peanut/almond butter.
  4. I like to top mine with ice cream but you can use any topping you like.

This is a great one bowl recipe and I’m sure you’re going to love it as much as I do!

Bon Appetit!
